Questions To Ask When Buying a Remanufactured Compressor

Questions to Ask When Buying Remanufactured Compressors

To get the best out of something, you need to ask the right questions. With this in mind, whenever you intend to purchase anything, you really should know more about the state of the product you want to buy amongst other things. In the case of buying a remanufactured compressor, there are some questions that you need to ask the compressor manufacturer.

This is necessary if you want to become more knowledgeable of the remanufactured compressor you are buying and also if you want to get the best possible deal. Below are some typical questions that every potential remanufactured compressor buyer should ask a dealer before purchasing a commercial remanufactured compressor.

What’s The Difference Between Remanufactured And Brand New Compressors?

A remanufactured compressor is a lot like a brand new compressor. It is a compressor that meets or exceeds every requirement for a fully functional OEM specific commercial compressor. Remanufactured compressors are mainly used to replace worn out compressors during the servicing of refrigeration or HVAC units. Every part in a remanufactured compressor is replaced regardless of whether or not the part is still functioning and set to OEM standards.

This makes remanufactured compressors just like brand new. This way consumers can quickly lay their hands on a compressor that is just like a new one without having to wait 2 or more months to get one of the few compressor models that are still available as 100% new. Remanufactured compressors are also a lot easier on your budget.

Asking a dealer what the difference is between a brand new and remanufactured compressor even though you already know what the difference is will help you to decide for yourself if the dealer is trustworthy or not.

Can I Get A Warranty For The Remanufactured Compressor?

Absolutely! You can ask if the remanufactured compressor dealer is offering a warranty on their remanufactured compressors. You should be wary if the dealer says that there is “no warranty or only guaranteed to start” for any of their remanufactured compressors. It could be that the dealer is actually selling “rebuilt compressors” and not remanufactured ones.

The difference between rebuilt and remanufactured compressors is that the former makes use of an old compressor and simply changes parts derived from a scrapyard. Rebuilt compressors often carry no warranties because there are really no assurances on the condition of the parts used to replace faulty or damaged ones.

However, if the compressor is a remanufactured one, then the dealer should offer you at the very least a 6 month warranty, since many of the parts of the compressor are actually brand new unlike those of rebuilt compressors. Warranties help to build trust in a remanufactured compressor dealer, so make sure to buy a compressor from one offering a lengthy warranty.

At Compressors Unlimited, we are very confident in our workmanship and offer a limited 12 month warranty compressors on the compressors we remanufacture.

What Are Your Credentials?

Do not feel like you are hurting anyone’s feelings by asking what their credentials are. As a matter of fact, the only remanufactured compressor dealers who feel offended by this question are those that know they really don’t have good credentials.

Compressor dealers with verifiable credentials would be proud to flaunt it as they see the question as an opportunity to deliver a sales pitch on how long they have been in business. So ask how long the dealer has been operating, as this is a sign that they most likely have competent professionals working for them. Remanufactured compressors require the touch of experienced, technical hands.

By knowing that the dealer you intend to buy the remanufactured compressor from has a team of well trained, competent  technicians, you can rest easy that you are actually buying a trusted product.
